Jesper lay down on his bed, the stone hard mattress giving what little support it had to the small of his back. At the end of the bed was a wad of tangled up sheets and covers that had been neglected due to the intensity of the hot weather that lingered in the atmosphere of the Belkane Asylum for the Criminally Insane. He was a 'prisoner' there, or so he would call it. It had been nearly a year since he was left in here to rot. But he did not care. It was worth it. He had avenged his younger sister, and if they thought he was crazy for that, then so be it. He pursed his lips and rolled over with a heavy sigh. It was only when he thought of Astrid that he felt any emotion at all. Yes. It was sad, but that was that, and it was all he knew.
There was a knock on the door and a man wearing a white lab coat walked in with a clipboard. Jesper sat up and leaned back against the plain white walls that surrounded the four corners of his empty room. All that accompanied him was the bed on which he sat, and a steel bench bolted down to the walls and floor. Everywhere from top to bottom was padded with a soft white leather with, what Jesper figured, was filled cotton. It was apparent to him that someone once attempted banging their head against the wall. He huffed, As if bashing yourself would fix the problem.
Jesper was no longer rebellious. He hated to admit it, but he had been broken. As stubborn as he was, it was official that he was now faking the 'goody two-shoes' attitude to get hell out of the Asylum. It was not that he hated it here. Honestly, he had no where else to go. He did not think his parents would want him back. Why would they? Had they ever really even wanted him?
The man with the clipboard sat down on the steel bench opposite of the bed. He flipped through the pages of the board, his face close to the pages so he could read the messy print of the previous records. He was an older man, his half-moon glasses perched on the tip of his crooked nose and the crows feet at the ends of his glassy eyes informed Jesper that he was withering away into nothing. He finally spoke, taking his spectacles off and rubbing them with his white coat -- inside and out, getting the fingerprints and dust loose. "It seems like you've improved from last week. Do you think you will be able to join the other patients in daily activities?" The man's voice was hoarse, and his mouth as dry as the pages that he held in his hands. His lips stuck together as he slurred his words, and his eyes sagged with a pitiful mope. Jesper simply nodded. What was there to say? He was not improving. In fact, he was right where he was we he first entered the damned place. They just did not know it.

Lauren sat up from laying down in the back of the long green van. Here she was, with her best friend Katy and her family. She had talked her mother into allowing her to go with her friend's family to Los Angeles, where they were visiting a family member. Her mother told her the basic mother stuff, be careful, call me if there are any problems, and something not so normal.
"Don't get too emotional, you know what will happen"
That kept running through Lauren's mind as the van pulled up to a gas station. Katy's parents jumped out of the van and headed inside, Katy peered over the seat to see if Lauren was awake.
Oh! You are awake!
Katy jumped into the backseat with Lauren, nudging her and laughing.
"So you having fun?
Lauren looked out the window smiling, then turned around. "Yeah, its been fun, can't believe I'm seeing Los Angeles right now!"
"Oh yeah your from Georgia, well it isn't all that"
"Well, it is for a small town country girl" Lauren replied smiling.
The parents jumped back in the van after pumping the gas. "Here you go girls, hope Mountain Dew is ok, Lauren?" Katy's father said handing back two mountain dew 20oz bottles. Lauren nodded smiling grabbing it out of his hand. They started up the vehicle and drove off.
After a few hours pass the family turn the vehicle into a parking lot across the street to a huge building. Lauren looked around, puzzled she tapped Katy's shoulder.
"Um, what are we doing here?"
Katy looked over to her and smiled, "Oh this is where my uncle is right now, we visit him every month".
Lauren smiled replying OK as they opened the sliding door. The four of them walked up to he busy street separating the structure from the parking lot. She looked around to find the name of the establishment, thinking it was a hospital. That's when she saw it, big bold, black letters, "Belkane Asylum". Lauren's heart dropped, where did they take her? Suddenly memories of her family trying to take the girl to a place called Belkane. Oh great, this is the place she heard about. The place who houses strange people, with abilities from out of this world. She would have to remain calm, and be very careful.
Lauren looked down at her music papers as they walked into the building, she sang the songs in her head as the parents told the two girls to stay in the lobby while they visit Katy's Uncle. Once they went in the elevator Katy giggled looking at Lauren.
"Come on!" She grabbed Lauren's hand as they run into one of the elevators that opened.
The elevator was full of doctors and people, once the door opened they all rushed out and pulled Lauren with them. She yelled Katy's name as the elevator closed. Great. Now she was alone, in God knows where. She went to press the elevator but found out it only went up. Lauren sighed as she started to walk, looking for elevators that went down.
As she walked she saw many strange people, staring at her, some mumbling. She started to run, searching for doctors or security to help her get out. She ran, flying around a corner, she turned so fast not paying attention she flew into someone. Her music papers flew everywhere, scattering the hall.

The doctor in his white overcoat, along with two young security guards entered Jesper's padded cell. The two younger men were dressed in a black shirt and black pants. A pair of handcuffs, a gun, a radio, and other assortments of items hung from their black belts, and they both had a silver and gold colored badge sitting on the top left of their shirts along with the text "Security Guard" printed in white on their backs. Jesper's face remained blank, as it normally did. He was not excited to be getting out of solitary confinement. In fact, he could care less whether he was alone or not. The last time he remembered caring about anything was when his sister was alive. Since then....nothing.
Jesper was escorted out of his cell and to the floor in which the patients were allowed to roam. The guards left and the doctor took is hand and attached a medical tag onto his wrist. Jesper continued to look around the room. It was a hallway. Was he really allowed to just roam? "This sag bag of a doctor is an idiot." a voice echoed in Jesper's head. His conscious, though he was not aware of it. The doctor smiled and walked away.
The blonde-headed boy began to walk around, observing the area. There were four elevators, two on each end of the hallways. One elevator went up, the other went down. Jesper walked over towards the down elevator, but an alarm went off and several people, including other patients stared and watched. Two security guards rushed up to Jesper and seized him by the arm and pushed him away from the elevator. Apparently he was not allowed to use the elevators....
He looked around once more and saw that the hallways branched off to another section. There were no exits on that side, but it was worth looking to find any other ways out. Even though he had just gotten out of solitary confinement, he was already hatching an escape plan.
He turned the corner when a girl bumped into him, her papers flying left and right, eddying to the floor, scattered. He simpled stared at the papers as they hit the ground, his face yet again as plain as it ever was. He looked back up at the woman that stood in front of him. She had long blonde hair and very light hazel eyes (?). He bent down to help her pick up the papers, putting on a fake smile to charm her. "Might want to watch the corners, next person may not respond so gently."

Could this get any worse? Being clumsy she had ran into someone. Lauren sighed quickly squatting down picking up the papers.
"I am so sorry! Sometimes I can be real clumsy" Lauren said quickly with her beautiful southern accent shining through her voice.
The boy helped her picking up the papers, telling her that the next person might not be so gentle. Lauren smiled looking up, "Yeah, so...." It caught Lauren off guard, the beautiful blonde boy looking into her eyes. His eyes captivating her, they looked like the soft blue sea she saw when she lived in the south. Immediately she caught herself, she felt feelings for this boy just like before. Her head rushed with the memory of her last boyfriend.
The last time she was in a relationship, she ended up hurting him, landing him in the hospital and forcing her and her mother to move to Sacramento. She couldn't go through that again, she can't live with hurting people anymore. She started to feel emotions stirred up but a voice ran through her mind again.
"Don't get too emotional, you know what will happen""
It was her mothers voice, reminding her of what could happen if she got "too" emotional. Lauren quickly snapped back to the real world. She stood up handing her hand out to the boy, "Like I said, I'm so sorry"
Lauren paused not worrying anymore about finding a way out of here, or Katy, possibly not even caring about her emotions. All she knew is that there was something about this boy, something she couldn't put her finger on, but she liked it.

Jesper lowered te smile a bit and laughed lightly, letting the air through his nose rather than his mouth. He honestly was now sure exactly where he had learned this, but it came naturally to him. It was a laugh more commonly used in awkward or uncommon situations : this being one of them. It was not every day that Jesper ran into a beautiful girl of his age, not that he felt anything. He had been locked away for quite some day. She was, in a way, his first contact outside of solitary confinement.
The blonde-headed boy handed the girl the papers, glancing at them as he let go. He cocked his head, something he learned from his biological father who did it quite often. He imitated the smile that once accompanied that of his father's face with the same action. "You write music?" he said his eyes opening further, taking interest in the matter, as much interest as was possible for him. He was more so....curious? Yes. Curious.
He smiled further, showing a set of smooth white teeth, and a dimple hanging above his right cheek. The ends of his eyes didn't krinkle into crow's feet, meaning this smile was a complete fake. Nothing new. It was a hard muscle to control, and Jesper had not yet mastered the 'smile.' It was, in fact, the most difficult facial expression to pull off, but he had hoped it was convincing. Jesper shook her hand, his hands were smooth and his grip was firm. What instrument do you play?"

The young blonde's slight laugh made Lauren's stomach jump. The boy's smile was beautiful but with her thoughts and mind set on his eyes she barely noticed. He then asked her if she wrote music, without talking she nodded as she made a slight noise coming out as "mhmm". It seemed he was very interested in this, she could tell by paying attention to his eyes so much. As soon as she answered he made a bigger smile showing pearly white teeth and at the end of the smile formed dimples. Her heart skipped a beat, dimples was something she loved and seeing his beautiful face form in such a way made her hormones rocket higher.
The boy grabbed her hand, smooth hands, and really firm. First thing she thought when their hands met was her best friend, Katy's "teachings". A quick flashback of a past disscussion with Katy appeared in her head.
"Ya know, you can tell a lot from a guys handshake" Katy would tell Lauren with a devilish grin.
"Oh really? And what might that be?"
"Well firm handshakes usually indicate a strong man, and hard working. If their hands are smooth, it could mean that they are gay"
Oh how Lauren felt so bummed out, this guy couldn't be gay, could he?! Maybe he was Bi-sexual, hard telling. Then again he does have nearly perfect hair, but he had a firm hand shake, maybe he is bi, but Lauren didn't want to believe it. She liked this guy, and in her mind she would try to make him straight.
The boy's voice snapped her out of her gaze. Lauren smiled looking down then looked back pulling her hand away.
"I play the guitar, do you play an instrument?"
Lauren answered kindly, she couldn't come out and ask him his orientation, could she? It's not polite or the southern way of doing things, she'd have to just ignore her ignorant little friend Katy.

Jesper could tell that the blonde-headed girl that stood in front of him was flustered. Was she falling for him? This was a new expression that he had not before seen, and it had certainly never been directed towards him. It confused him. He was not even sure how to react to this, let alone react in a way that was appropriate. What was he supposed to do? In all honesty, he was not sure. He continued the conversation as though it were just another person, one that he could have run into on the street or some other location.
He lowered his hand as she let go, stuck both of them in his blue jean pockets, and looked around the room as to avoid a gaze. He was pretending to be nervous. He figured that it was a common reaction between two people who just meet, and especially under such odd curcumstances. His blue eyes returned to hers as she mentioned playing a guitar. Again, he was interested. This was basically the only thing that he ever felt : curiosity. It was his way of coping with the lack of everything else.
He smiled again, this tme, his teeth staying hidden behind his lips. "So do I! Drums are my second pick, but I've always favored guitars" he said, nodding his head up and down, and smiling to one side. Jesper frowned "It's a shame they don't let us bring instruments here," For a quick moment he wondered, then covered up, "I mean, I want to play for my dad who's stuck here, you know. He's on the " Jesper took his finger and swirved it in a circle around ear, making an 'O' with his mouth, "side."

As the boy looked away Lauren felt that maybe there was something off, was he nervous? Really? No, it can't be, or maybe it can. She didn't know him, maybe he is the shy type, like herself, hard telling. The boy really liked instruments every time speaking on it he would show a lot of interest. When he mentioned the drums Lauren sort of shrugged it off, she didn't have the talent for the drums and they didn't really interest her. The boy then spoke of his father who was here, playing an instrument, not a bad idea. Thing is, Lauren didn't see any rule saying you can't, maybe she wasn't looking in the right place.
"I'm sorry to hear that" Wow this conversation has had so many sorrys in it, it's starting to sound like a broken record.
Lauren smiled, looked around then down at the ground.
"Um, is there anywhere we could maybe sit?" Lauren's sweet country accent made it near impossible to turn her down, well for most boys.
"Oh I'm Lauren by the way, Lauren Myers, and you are?" Dang it, she forgot to introduce herself! That is nothing like her, she always introduces herself, its how she as raised. Must of been that boy's eyes, she gets lost in them, might be best not to look at him all the time.
Lauren let out a small giggle as she waited for the young boy to reply.

Jesper shrugged. He was not quite sure why she was apologizing. It seemed that a lot of people did this, and it confused him. Why say sorry when you did not do anything? What was the point? How many times had she appositeness to him already? Two? Three? Yes. Three. "It's fine, really. I'm Jesper Kutcher" He gave a weak smile looked around. "I think I saw a cafeteria down the hall, will that do? He hoped she would pick up the fact that he was asking her to eat with him. Jesper put out his hand in the direction of the cafeteria., gesturing a "Ladies first".
Jesper had thought it over quickly. This girl could be of use to him. If he planned it out correctly, he could sneak off to the bathroom and rid of the bracelet on his arm that set the limits of where he could go throughout the hospital. It looked like a guest bracelet. He hid it in his jean's pocket to keep it out of her view. He did not want Lauren to know that he was a patient here. Jesper figured it would lower the chances she would speak to him, thus lowering his chances of getting the hell out.
He had weighed the possibilities. The pros and cons of trying to escape towards waiting for release. He did not feel like waiting in this damned place forever. It had already been a trip to hell and back, and he wanted to get it behind him and start over. What did these people not get about it? The past is called the past for a reason. You can't change it. What did they think that locking him in this Asylum for a year would bring that bastard back from the dead? He huffed.
[/i]As though he even deserves that?![/i]. Jesper calmed himself, attempting to take his mind off of the murder of his sister, Astrid. It was only in thinking about her that his true emotions showed. The rest of the time, his face was a masked image of someone else. Every other emotion he put on was just a repeat of something he had seen before. Something he had learned. The boy shrugged at her apology, such a strange response in this situation. Then again, Lauren had already used "sorry" a few times, maybe the blonde boy was tired of hearing the word. "It's fine, really. I'm Jesper Kutcher" Jesper..... A unique name, Lauren had never met or heard of someone with this name, but she liked it.
Lauren nodded as Jesper proposed on going to the cafeteria. She walked as he gestured her to go first, such a polite and respecting boy. As Lauren walked her mind began to wonder.
Where could Katy be
That thought went through her brain like a bullet to her head. Could Katy be in trouble? What if she ran into trouble with one of the patients, or got in trouble with one of the staff? Nah, Katy is too slick there is no way she'd have any problems, she probably is on her way to Lauren as her and Jesper talked. If she wasn't Lauren wouldn't mind, she was having a good time with this young man, even if a few things about him came off strange.
Lauren finally got out of her own head to notice that there was an awkward silence between the both of them. The two of them made it to the cafeteria very quickly, it wasn't very populated. A family of four were eating pizza in the corner, a few nurses were having their lunch and there were only a couple of cafeteria workers on shift. Lauren smiled as she walked up to one of the cafeteria women behind the counter.
"I'd like a slice of pizza and a large coke" Now when Lauren said coke she actually was planning on getting an orange soda, but she is from the south and down there they cal everything cokes.
The women gave her a large styrofoam cup and a slice of pepperoni pizza onto a small paper plate.
"That will be five dollars" A little expensive, maybe she should of got something from the vending machines over on the wall. After all they did have sandwiches, subs, and other things.
Lauren glanced over at Jesper with a smile. "You getting anything?" Lauren asked again with her accent sticking out like a sore thumb.
